TWO-DAY WORKSHOP FOR EDUCATORS

Foundations of NGSS

Registration is now open for 2025-26 workshop dates.

Teachers enhance their capacity to integrate Next Generation Science Standards-aligned instruction across grade levels.

Teaching three-dimensional science in alignment with the NGSS represents a big shift in practice — with a huge pay off for students and teachers! To make those shifts as educators, you must first be able to make sense of the standards, understand how they’re organized and experience what a standards-aligned lesson looks like in action. Come spend a couple days digging into the NGSS and walk away with answers to the questions: “What does the NGSS ask of students?” and “How do I support student learning with the NGSS?”

About the workshop

This two-day workshop allows participants to:

  • Gain a thorough understanding of the three-dimensional, phenomena-driven instructional approach to teaching, including the shifts laid out in A Framework for K-12 Science Education.
  • Experience, and reflect on, three-dimensional phenomenon-based instruction that requires sense-making via science practices to meaningfully support their students in this type of learning.
  • Understand and analyze student coherence within their curriculum in order to better teach grade level appropriate science concepts in alignment with NGSS.
  • Have opportunities to build confidence teaching the NGSS alongside a community of science teachers.

This workshop is designed for science teachers, curriculum specialists or administrators for K-8th grades who have little familiarity with NGSS expectations for science teaching and learning.

Note: Participants will receive books and resources to support their integration of NGSS into their classrooms. This workshop does not provide a complete NGSS curriculum.

Foundations of NGSS workshops will be available for individual registrants periodically throughout the school year. Check back for future dates, or sign up for the Educator newsletter to be the first to hear about new offerings.
