A massive day of miniature marvels and movie magic.

Silent film star Colleen Moore's miniature Fairy Castle has long been a marvel in the Museum's collection. Now the woman behind the one-of-a-kind artifact is back in the spotlight once again thanks to Chicago author Kathleen Rooney's new novel, From Dust to Stardust, which is based on the true story of how Colleen Moore's Fairy Castle came to be.

Moore’s Marvelous Minis will be anything but small—the all-day, Museum-wide event will celebrate Moore’s cinematic career, Rooney’s magical storytelling, and the impressive work of modern-day miniature artists. Join the fun with a variety of free and paid activities including:

  • Conversation with author Kathleen Rooney and Alice Hargrave, Colleen Moore's granddaughter (11 a.m. - requires additional ticket: $5 - Griffin MSI members $4)
  • Book signing with Kathleen Rooney (1 p.m. - requires advance or onsite book purchase: $20 - Griffin MSI members $19)
  • Miniature artisan marketplace with demonstrations and mini items for purchase in the Rotunda (included in Museum Entry)
