RISE Program

This youth development teen program inspires young people to seek future pathways in STE(A)M — science, technology, engineering, art/design, and mathematics. Designed to engage high school students in grades 9 through 12, RISE aims to build understanding, confidence and lasting relationships.

How it works

The program has two avenues of engagement:

Drop-in program

The Drop-in Program supports young people's curiosity about Griffin MSI and STE(A)M career pathways. During these sessions, participants work independently or in small groups on various hands-on and digital projects and activities. Teens build relationships with their peers and adult program facilitators, fostering a sense of belonging and community.

Structured experience

These twelve-week sessions provide young people interested in a deeper and more structured STE(A)M engagement with hands-on activities that align with their interests and goals. The program sessions emphasize different levels of learning opportunities: Discovery, Engagement through STE(A)M, Leadership Development and potential Internships. Activities and projects are closely connected to civic engagement initiatives, field trips and participation in meetups organized by youth in Out-of-School-Time (OST) programs across Chicago. Participants will also have the chance to work as volunteers alongside Griffin MSI staff and community partners to facilitate STE(A)M activities.

Participants in this free program also receive:

  • Free admission to Griffin MSI, along with free or discounted tickets to special exhibits, events and the Giant Dome Theater.
  • Free parking in the Museum's underground garage.
  • Discounts in Museum stores and restaurants.
  • Free or discounted admission to many Chicago-area museums and certain museums nationwide.
  • Volunteer hours for program participation (upon request).
