Beyond the Surface: The Art of X-rays

opens summer 2025

See the fascinating truth inside these incredible artifacts.

Beyond the Surface explores the artistry and science of X-rays, highlighting the work of photographer Andrei Duman. Using the state-of-the-art capabilities of Griffin Studio, this exhibit showcases the creativity and engineering that go into everyday objects. Several historic artifacts from the Museum collection were also imaged for this exhibition, including a souvenir photographic box camera from the 1933 Century of Progress World’s Fair.

Learn about the history of X-rays starting from their advent at the tail end of the 19th century through their modern, more artistic uses. Test whether you can identify well-known objects from their X-rays, before uncovering even more about the incredible Griffin MSI Collection. Explore high-end cars from the inside out through interactive displays of six scaled Bugatti models.

Beyond the Surface: The Art of X-rays opens in summer 2025 and will be included in General Admission.
