Rabiah Mayas, Ph.D., is the Ruth D. and Ken M. Davee Vice President of Education. Dr. Mayas oversees MSI’s groundbreaking Welcome to Science Initiative, a suite of education programs dedicated to removing barriers to science education, through interactive, hands-on and innovative learning experiences.
Dr. Mayas held various roles at MSI, most recently as director of science and integrated strategies where she oversaw the Wanger Family Fab Lab, led educational research and evaluation, developed university and community organization partnerships, and created several signature educational programs and events.
Dr. Mayas earned a B.S. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and Ph.D. in the same discipline from The University of Chicago. She serves on multiple advisory boards and committees, such as the Advisory Board Chicago Children’s Museum; and the Center for the Advancement of Science Education’s Research and Practice Partnerships task force.
Dr. Mayas has been featured as a repeat guest on WTTW’s Chicago Tonight for their “Scientific Chicago” segments. She also has been interviewed frequently by local Chicago TV, radio and print outlets, including the Chicago Tribune’s Blue Sky Innovation section. She has spoken at conferences for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Inclusive SciComm Symposium, Association of Science-Technology Centers and various youth conferences.
