Nobody does the holidays like MSI. Enjoy a one-of-a-kind seasonal celebration by joining us for the 72nd annual Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light.
This year’s colorful theme is inspired by the Museum’s new temporary exhibit—Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives, presented by D23: The Official Disney Fan Club—which celebrates the innovation of Walt Disney’s legacy with more than 300 artifacts from Disney’s 90-year history.
As always, the Museum’s 45-foot Grand Tree takes center stage in the Rotunda with more than 30,000 red, green and white twinkling lights and hundreds of ornaments and trimmings. More than 50 smaller trees are beautifully decorated by volunteers from Chicago’s ethnic communities to represent their various cultures and holiday traditions. This custom began for local families in 1942 as a United Nations Day salute to the Allies during World War II. From a first year featuring only a dozen trees, the annual exhibit has grown into a forest of dazzling trees and homemade displays, created by dedicated volunteers.
Stroll through the trees, enjoy intermittent falling “snow” and savor the performances on the Holiday Stage. School choral groups perform during the week, and ethnic song and dance performances take place on the weekends in conjunction with the exhibit.
The celebration runs through January 5, 2014. Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light are included in Museum Entry, as are all performances. An additional ticket is required for Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives.
