Never fear! The Museum offers a host of hair-raising activities, events and exhibits that will help our guests ring in the Halloween season in style. One extra Halloween treat for our guests: general admission is free on Halloween, October 31st!

Resurrected! The Haunted Coal Mine!

The Coal Mine will be transformed into a ghoulish haunted experience for guests who want to participate in a Halloween treat.
October 24, 25, 31 and November 1 at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
(For guests who would prefer to have the traditional Coal Mine experience, normal scare-free tours will still be offered 2-3 times an hour.)

Get Slimed!

Guests will learn how to become a mad scientist and create their own fun green slime. This program will take place on the Main Level.
October 24, 25, 31 and November 1 from 9:30-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m.

Pumpkin Smashing!

We will drop pumpkins from the Balcony to the Main Level to teach an eye-opening science lesson.
October 24, 25, 31 and November 1 at 11 a.m., 2:45 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Idea Factory Funhouse

The Idea Factory will ramp up the fun to help your family celebrate Halloween. The funhouse will feature Halloween-themed, science-based crafts (e.g. Pumpkin Shakers, Spooky Thaumatropes and Balancing Cats).

Poop Happens

Hopefully guests don’t have a weak stomach as they follow their food from the mouth to their stomach and beyond. Learn how your Halloween candy will get digested!

Tuesdays through Saturdays from 1:15 to 1:35 p.m. (Science Theater)

Dissecting Eyes at MSI!

Guests get the opportunity to dissect their own cow eye in this in-sight-ful experience! (Age 10 or older; chaperoned groups must be 14 or older.)
October 20 – November 2 (Education Lab, Balcony Level 3)

  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays: 11 to 11:30 a.m.
  • Thursdays: 11 to 11:30 a.m., and 12:30 to 1 p.m.
  • Sundays, Mondays: 12:30 to 1 p.m.

 

TemperPanic: Bed of Nails!

See what it is like to put your body up against a bed of nails. Watch scientists on a bed of nails and explore the points of pressure. If you are lucky, or should we say unlucky, you may be asked to participate!
October 20 – November 2 (Rotunda)

  • Sundays, Mondays—11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
  • Tuesdays, Fridays—11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., and 2:30 to 3:15 p.m.
  • Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays—2:30 to 3:15 p.m.

 

Fangs, Flashes, and Fire!

Our scientists conduct amazing experiments with chemicals and fire. It will be a mind-blowing experience for guests who aren’t afraid to attend.
October 20 – November 2 (Rotunda)
Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. and 12 p.m.

A Home for All Seasons: The Smart Home: Green + Wired Fall Event

Trick or Treat with Mad Scientists

Find a mad scientist for a cool trick and treat! The lab coats of Museum scientists will be filled with candy, stickers and other surprises.
October 31 only (throughout the Museum)

Trick or Treat at the Smart Home: Green + Wired Exhibit!

If guests give anything recyclable (from scrap receipts, maps, or even pocket fuzz) they will receive organic candy for their efforts to be green.
October 31 only (Smart Home)
