Saving a Century of Progress: The Restoration of Five World’s Fair Homes at the Indiana Dunes
May 13, 14 and 15 at 1 p.m.
Special lecturer Todd Zeiger, director of the Northern Regional Office of Indiana Landmarks, will lead a presentation on the innovative project to restore five houses that were constructed as part of the 1933-34 Century of Progress World’s Fair Homes of Tomorrow. (At the close of the Fair, the homes were relocated to Beverly Shores, Ind.) The houses are currently being restored through a partnership between Indiana Landmarks, the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and private parties. The talk will examine the homes’ place at the Fair, their relocation, the creation of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, the ambitious restoration and the historic impact the homes had on housing trends.
Todd Zeiger has built upon his love of historic buildings with more than 20 years of experience ranging from museum management to building restoration and relocation.
