Empires of Light: Edison, Tesla, Westinghouse and the Race to Electrify the World
Author Jill Jonnes will treat members to a presentation on her book Empires of Light. Hear about the final decades of the 19th century, when three visionary titans of America's Gilded Age—Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, and George Westinghouse—battled bitterly, each vying to create a vast electrical empire. Jonnes will talk about this extraordinary trio and their universe of cutting-edge invention and intrigue. You’ll discover how the fateful collision of Edison, Tesla and Westinghouse left the world utterly transformed.

About the author
Jill Jonnes is the author of several books, including the highly acclaimed Eiffel’s Tower. Jonnes spent her childhood living in various foreign countries before enrolling at Barnard College. Afterwards she received her MS in Journalism from Columbia and her Ph.D. in American history from Johns Hopkins. Jonnes currently lives in Baltimore.
