The 2010 American Solar Challenge kicked off on June 20, with solar-powered cars racing from Broken Arrow, Okla. across 1,200 miles toward a finish on June 26 in Naperville, Ill. Designed by 17 competing teams of college students, these cars must pass "scrutineering" and qualifying rounds in order to participate in the big race.
Fresh from the road, the cars that finish the race can be seen in MSI's circle drive (outside the main entrances) on Sunday, June 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (weather permitting). See the ingenuity and meet with the racing teams in person. Viewing the cars during this time does not require an additional ticket/cost.
If you miss the racecars on Sunday, June 27, Northwestern University and Illinois State will have their cars on display Monday, June 28 through Thursday, July 1 in the Museum's Rotunda.
