Our tale begins in the neighborhoods of Chicago, Illinois. The residents and students of this fair city became curious about the land they walked on -- a curiosity that drove them underground, testing the soil in their neighborhoods for hydrogen, phosphorous and nitrate. They took their results from these tests to this web site and entered them in the Map of the Underground. Now you can see the results of their experiments and get the materials to do your own at the Museum of Science and Industry's on-line learning lab.
