American Solar Challenge
A 2300 mile Rayce to California

In addition to the Solar Independence exhibit, the Museum of Science and Industry will hold two weekend activities for the whole family on Saturday, July 14 and Sunday, July 15.

On Saturday, guests will preview solar-powered cars scheduled to race in the American Solar Challenge and talk with the teams competing in the 2,300-mile rally across historical Route 66 to California. Alternative-fueled vehicles will be on display including antique electric cars charged by a solar-electronic system.

On Sunday, nearly 40 solar-powered cars will begin the 10-day, 2,300-mile American Solar Challenge (ASC) Car Rally. ASC is an event that pits university teams, companies and clubs from around the world against each other to build and race the fastest solar-powered car on the continent. Cars will depart from the Museum of Science and Industry every minute starting at 9 a.m., July 15. The race will make stops in 16 cities along the way culminating in Claremont, California on July 25.
