From start to finish, it takes Patrick about 3 months to complete one of his paintings. From sketches and subject matter to numerical analysis and shadow placement, there is a lot of thought and planning that goes into one of Patrick's paintings.
Patrick first chooses his subject matter. After carefully sketching many, many renderings of the potential picture,Patrick is ready to make his canvas and its frame.
Patrick’s canvases are wooden boards that are three dimensional geometric shapes. They are prepared with a paint-base, set to dry, and are then gessoed three separate times. Patrick sometimes allows the shape of the canvas to determine the subject of the painting.
Next, Patrick draws his picture directly onto the painted boards.
The painting begins! Careful consideration and emphasis is placed on even the smallest of details.
After the painting is completed, it is framed and ready for display.
