British surrealist artist, Patrick Hughes, began working on his “moving pictures” in 1964. After taking a break, he returned to this art form in 1987. Because the paintings distort the idea of perspective, they have been named Reverspective. You'll notice that the majority of the paintings focus on items or subjects that lend themselves to perspective. Where are the people? Patrick will almost never paint people in his paintings as he believes that there are already people in the painting — you interacting with it!

When Patrick was 3 or 4 years old, living in the English City of Crewe, the city was under the threat of German bombs. For safety, he and his mother would sleep underneath the stairs in the basement of their small cottage. “We were looking up at these stairs the wrong way around - up and down, up and down - stairs that only a fly could walk up. It must have made a strong impression: being bombed and in the dark and seeing everything the wrong way around.”
