Laurie Anderson, a native of Glen Ellyn, Ill., is a multimedia performance artist and NASA’s first artist-in-residence. She collaborated with a team at Palo Alto’s Interval Research Corporation to design a wireless musical instrument called the Talking Stick, which can access and replicate any sound and is able to create new sound textures.
