The 3rd Annual Chicago Half Marathon takes runners on a 13.1-mile course through Chicago’s historic and beautiful Hyde Park neighborhood winding through Jackson and Washington Parks. The Chicago Half Marathon is proud of its certification as a USA Track & Field Sanctioned event. This year's race will also serve as the USA Track & Field State Championship and acknowledges the top area runners by offering prize money to the top three male and female overall finishers and the top male and female masters finishers.

Even though you may not choose to run the 13.1-mile Chicago Half Marathon, the whole family is invited to attend the action-packed Kids’ Festival being presented in conjunction with the 3rd Annual Chicago Half Marathon on Sunday, September 12, 1999, on the front lawn of the Museum of Science and Industry.

This free festival begins at 9:30 a.m. and concludes at 1:00 p.m., with loads of fun activities planned for all ages. Scheduled events include: the Radio Disney stage, featuring lively entertainment with Disney characters, hosted by disc jockey "G-Man"; kid’s 50- and 100-yard dashes; Chicago Public Library bookmobile and storyteller readings; the Jesse White Tumblers; a giant Bungee Run; the Museum’s "Mr. Slim Goodbody"; and "Make and Take" projects sponsored by the Museum of Science and Industry.

Proceeds from the Kids’ Fest will benefit the Chicago Public Library. For more information about the 13-mile Chicago Marathon race or Kids’ Festival, please call Dillon Productions, Inc. at 773.929.6072, or visit their new web site at
