Museum of Science and Industry

I did like green day today.

I put green eggs onto a plate,
By 9am this day was great.

I then ate them with a chef,
I did eat 'til none were left.

I then went to City Hall,
Up to the top, hope I don't fall.

A prairie field up on floor twelve,
For more details, I did delve.

20K square feet of green,
Oasis here; very serene.

Bees a-plenty on the roof,
I smoked their hive out with a poof.

Learned a lot 'bout bees and honey,
Thought with the veil, I did look funny.

For the night, Smart Home is mine,
Fake wine and cheese, I did dine.

This house is so smart and cute,
I'm never going to want to scoot.

Today's been "green" and it's been great,
Now to the bed, I can't be late!

All rhyming aside, today was really special. Chef Sarah Stegner, of Prairie Fire, not only gave us an amazing breakfast (seriously, one of the best pieces of ham I've ever eaten), she made me think about the value of connecting farmers directly with chefs and consumers. I can't wait to check out Green City Market, for which she's a co-chair. Big thanks to Michael Thompson the beekeeper for MSI and the City of Chicago. Between the 60 hives that he tends to, I know he's a busy man. He taught me that honey bees don't notice light colors and that hives can grow from 2,000 to 50,000 in less than three months. Amazing! Thank you to City Hall too! Kudos for having the largest green roof in the city (and go Chicago for having more green roofs than anywhere in the U.S.).

Thanks Amy & Mindy. Blaireinator: I love it! Debbie: Good question! Sarah is the chef at Prairie Fire in Chicago. I added the link in the post so you can stop by for your own green eggs.

Sorry, comments are not allowed for this post.
