From the Essay
"I think it’s important that learning doesn’t stop after a visit to the museum; it’s meant to inspire it. If a visitor (or their child) really enjoyed a particular exhibit, I’d love to give them the resources to learn more.”
MSI Judges’ Thoughts
What was your 8th-grade science teacher like? Did she blow things up? Sport custom science t-shirts for every lab? Share her passion for learning? No? Then she wasn’t anything like Mrs. Duff. Katie is obsessed with science, and has the science-themed accessories to prove it! (Microscope necklace, check.) Sharing her love of science with students is what drives her every day, and her students seem to love her back—several now want to pursue science careers. (Check out her video to hear some student testimonials!)
If she becomes the Museum’s next roommate, her goal would be to give all her followers the chance to follow along and experience science for themselves with a series of do-it-yourself demos and activities. Katie is the science teacher we all wish we had, and she’s more than eager to share her skills with the whole world from inside MSI.
