From the Essay
"Ask any kid about their favorite field trip ever. For me and millions of others, it was a trip to a science museum. Something about these voluminous, action-packed bazaars of science and technology captivated in ways that no book, movie or other medium on Earth ever did (or could today)."
MSI Judges’ Thoughts
Dave’s all about exploring and sharing his passion for science. He’s covered space shuttle launches for Space.com, interned at a particle accelerator lab, and regularly loses sleep by reading Wikipedia pages devoted to previous discoveries and space missions. As a journalist, Dave immerses himself in research about a topic, interviews experts and witnesses really cool stuff first-hand, then synthesizes it into relatable articles. His dedication to a shuttle launch story once had him “sleeping” next to his laptop, listening for any signs of trouble from Mission Control.
Dave’s life isn’t all science all the time. He loves goofing off with his nieces and nephews, letting loose in the karaoke club, and even briefly toured with his band in high school. Rock on, Dave! If chosen to be the Museum’s next roommate, Dave would bring his journalistic skills to dive deep into the Museum’s exhibits and report on everything he learns.
