Earn Your Master’s Degree with MSI
The Museum and Illinois Institute of Technology offer a series of courses that allow you to earn a Master of Science Education degree or a middle-school science endorsement in as little as two years.
The master's program requires 11 courses (33 graduate credit hours), and the endorsement requires eight courses (24 graduate credit hours). Courses are offered at a reduced tuition rate during the academic year and summer. You can also take MSI courses for graduate credit.
Programs begin with the Museum's science teacher education courses for fourth- through eighth-grade teachers. You'll gain a broad science background through courses in life science (All About You), environmental science (Expedition: Green), physical science (Get Re-Energized), and Earth systems science (Great Lakes Rocks). MSI courses are aligned with Illinois Learning Standards and designed in accordance with national science education standards.
IIT delivers additional courses at its main campus, including Adolescent Psychology, Advanced Strategies, Assessment and Evaluation, Curriculum and Instruction, and Supervision.
Master’s program admission criteria include:
- Bachelor’s degree in science or education. Candidates with degrees in related fields are eligible provided they have a documented, successful experience working with school-age youth.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 (course work completed within seven years of admission).
- Professional statement and letter of recommendation.
