Teacher Workshops
Get inspired by the creative teaching strategies you'll experience in the professional development workshops offered by our Institute for Quality Science Teaching.
Professional Development
Through our Center for the Advancement of Science Education, the Museum offers professional development coursework designed to increase knowledge of science, improve teaching skills and demonstrate how to use Museum programs and exhibits to enhance science curriculum. Teachers explore topics relevant to their science curriculum and return to the classroom with new ideas, greater confidence and the resources they need to make science engaging. Courses include:
Yearlong Workshop Series - This program targets 4th- through 8th-grade educators with limited experience teaching science. Teachers attend six daylong sessions throughout the school year and can earn up to six graduate credit hours. Workshops are offered at no cost, and content is aligned with Illinois Learning Standards in science. We will take applications for the 2010-11 series in late summer.
Daylong Workshops - We offer full- and half-day sessions throughout the year on a variety of topics, such as climate change and the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. We currently do not have any workshops scheduled.
Summer Institutes - Join us over the summer for immersive workshop series on topics such as life science, physical science and environmental science. We will take applications for summer 2010 courses beginning in spring.
