Fall Workshop Series
Our Get Energized! and City Science workshop series show you how to do inquiry-based and hands-on/minds-on science in your classroom, and use Museum programs and exhibits to enhance your science curriculum. The series are designed for 4th-8th grade teachers, especially those looking to build their science-teaching skills.
Dates for the 2008-09 school year have not yet been set; please check back for application information.
Teachers are recruited in pairs to ensure shared resources and continuity within each school. Participants must attend all five sessions at the Museum over the course of the school year. Our workshop series are:
- Led by Museum educators
- Designed in accordance with AAAS Project 2061 and the National Science Education Standards
- Aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards for late elementary and middle school students
- Offered on a scholarship basis at no cost to teachers who qualify and are selected to participate
Get Energized! explores concepts related to energy, including energy transformation and conversion, potential and kinetic energy, electricity, sound, light, heat and more.
City Science highlights city ecology, human impact on the environment, the science behind structures, and what issues play a role in developing the cities of the future.
