Message from the Campaign Chairman
I have been involved with the Museum of Science and Industry for more than a decade, including six and a half years as Board Chairman. There is one constant that I have noticed in all my years of involvement—a feeling of excitement, awe and inspiration as you enter the building. Children, parents, teachers and business leaders are equally excited by the sheer size and scale of the Museum and all its amazing contents. The exhibits provide a spark that awakens our inner desire to learn and connect with science. For 75 years, the Museum of Science and Industry has done this like no other.
Over the last several years, the Museum has focused on its vision to inspire and motivate our children to achieve their full potential in the fields of science, technology, medicine and engineering. As a world-class city and as a nation, we face increasing competition from global competitors for investment capital and jobs. We also face a number of societal challenges, such as energy independence and healthcare.
In order to deliver on the promise of a brighter future for our children, we must prepare them to meet these challenges. This will require a workforce comprised of talented professionals in the areas of science, technology, medicine and engineering. I have seen this firsthand in my more than 30 years experience with manufacturer Illinois Tool Works and as a board member with major companies who all rely on science and innovation to advance their businesses.
I am excited about the Museum's plans for the future. We are creating new and exciting education programs to advance science education, renewing our treasured exhibits, building new icons for the 21st century and enhancing the guest experience to make interacting with the Museum more exciting and easier.
I hope that you will support our ambitious plans by making a gift to Science Rediscovered. I thank everyone who has supported us to date.
