Responsibilities
The Museum of Science and Industry provides programs and experiences that deepen the engagement of students and teachers in science and science-related disciplines, with a vision to inspire and motivate our children to achieve their full potential in the fields of science, technology, engineering and medicine.
The Senior Educator for IQST-L will coordinate, develop and implement science teacher education courses through the Museum’s Institute for Quality Science Teaching and Learning, a component of MSI’s Center for the Advancement of Science Education (CASE)
- Develop and implement teacher education programs in accordance with the Institute for Quality Science Teaching, Center for Advancement of Science Education (CASE) priorities and guidelines.
- Continually monitor programs for quality assurance via evaluation; make recommendations and implement modifications based on evaluation findings.
- Remain current in and apply best practices in teacher education and science education for primary and secondary students.
- Collaborate with the Student Experiences and Interactive Videoconference teams to ensure all programs align with overall CASE objectives and are relevant to local, state and national education standards.
- Hire, train, schedule and supervise materials assistant, volunteers and interns.
- Serve as a liaison to create and maintain productive partnerships with external organizations, such as universities and school districts.
- Communicate with internal staff and external partners regarding program logistics. Act as liaison to create and maintain productive partnerships with formal education community and other internal and external partners.
- Compile financial reports and maintain program budgets.
- Track and report program attendance. Maintain program documentation.
- Collaborate with Marketing Department to raise awareness of CASE programs and initiatives and recruit program participants.
- Collaborate with External Affairs Department on grant proposals and reports.
- Participate in assigned working groups and on cross-department/division Museum teams.
- Maintain departmental responsibilities (meetings, email, phone, etc.).
- Assist with other CASE programs and collaborations as assigned.
Qualifications
- Masters’ degree or equivalent experience in science, education or related discipline, or 5+ years of related experience and/or training is preferred.
- Experience with science education required.
- Experience in developing and delivering programs for teachers required.
- Experience with middle grades students and teachers preferred.
- Candidates must have a strong understanding of and experience with non-traditional learning environments and informal learning strategies.
- Must be creative and dynamic; exhibit enthusiasm, initiative, flexibility, and openness to new ideas.
- Detail oriented; excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking required.
- Must demonstrate comfort in a team environment, with strong collaboration skills.
- An ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Excellent project management, planning and organizational skills.
- Bilingual ability a plus.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher) required.
