Evaluator

Responsibilities
The Museum of Science and Industry provides programs and experiences that deepen the engagement of students and teachers in science and science-related disciplines, with a vision to inspire and motivate our children to achieve their full potential in the fields of science, technology, engineering and medicine.
The Evaluator will coordinate and implement evaluation studies for Center for the Advancement of Science Education (CASE) programming initiatives and exhibit-related projects, as well as other Museum initiatives as necessary. The Evaluator will support the development of new and ongoing evaluation studies, including major grant-funded projects, digital learning initiatives and external research and evaluation projects. This includes front-end, formative and summative analysis. Scope of work includes, but is not limited to, teacher professional development, community-based science programs, youth development, student programs and exhibition projects. In addition, the Evaluator will:
- Develop and implement evaluation studies integrating systematic collection and interpretation of data, both qualitative and quantitative.
- Research and apply best practices in all projects, including student programs, teacher professional development, community initiatives, youth development and exhibition projects.
- Develop and disseminate evidence-based recommendations to evaluation, programming and exhibition staff on evaluation and research design, implementation and analysis.
- Continually monitor evaluation studies for quality assurance and relevance to standards.
- Serve as liaison between Evaluation and Research team to other CASE and Museum-wide teams on specific projects.
- Train and supervise volunteers and/or interns on evaluation best practices.
- Manage appropriate documentation and record-keeping of all projects, including management of data collection and project timelines.
- Communicate with internal staff on ongoing evaluation projects and findings; serve as liaison with multiple Museum departments as needed.
- Maintain departmental responsibilities (meetings, email, phone, etc.)
- Assist with other projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in research, evaluation or related field, or equivalent experience required. Master’s degree or equivalent experience a plus.
- Informal education experience a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Excellent analytical skills required.
- Experience designing and conducting evaluation tools required.
- Detailed oriented and ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Macintosh Operating Systems, SPSS and other evaluation and statistical software.
- Familiarity with programming in museum and school systems a plus.
- Bilingual ability a plus.
