Education Coordinator (Teacher Programs)

Responsibilities:
Together with the Senior Coordinator and the team, this individual will supervise the development, implementation and revision of a series of professional development workshops, advisory groups, guides and other resources and programs for teachers. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Research, develop and implement teacher workshops, curriculum and other resources in accordance with the Education Department’s objectives.
- Review existing content material, strategies, and research/evaluation to make recommendations and implement approved modifications.
- Continually monitor Teacher Programs for quality assurance and relevance to applicable state and national education standards and suggest positive changes.
- Supervise, schedule and train volunteers and interns on program content and best practices.
- Collaborate with Senior Coordinator, other team members, and School Programs staff to develop exhibit-based resources for teachers and students and to plan special events.
- Order and maintain materials and supplies per MSI guidelines.
- Communicate with internal staff and external partners regarding program logistics. Act as liaison to create and maintain productive partnerships with formal education community and other internal and external partners.
- Compile financial reports and maintain program budgets for the programs assigned.
- Track and report program attendance. Maintain documentation of program, including photographs, anecdotal evidence and progress for the programs assigned.
- Work with the Senior Coordinator, team, and the Development Department for program proposals and reports to donors.
- Market education programs through our Marketing Department.
- Participate as team member in assigned working groups and on various Museum teams.
- Maintain departmental responsibilities (meetings, email, phone, etc.)
- Assist with other education programs as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in science, education or related discipline; and two to three years related experience and/or training.
- Strong enthusiasm for science required; background knowledge of physical sciences a plus.
- Familiarity with the formal education system; experience with the Chicago Public Schools a plus.
- Must be creative and dynamic; exhibit enthusiasm, initiative, flexibility, and openness to new ideas.
- Must be a team player with strong collaboration skills.
- Prior teaching experience with students and teachers; informal experience a plus.
- Prior curriculum development and supervisory experience required.
- Detail oriented; excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Excellent project management, planning and organizational skills.
- Bilingual ability a plus.
- Must have a reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license.
- Museum Hours

- Monday – Friday: 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Sunday: 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Open every day except Christmas Day
