Dear Friends,
This spring at the Museum of Science and Industry, I invite you to take a closer look—at the natural world around us, at the stories we tell and at this Museum.
It all starts with our latest temporary exhibit, MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition, making its world premiere at MSI. It will have you hanging from ledges, driving blindfolded, pulling tablecloths off of fully set tables and doing everything else you've always wished you could do—but knew you shouldn't. And like the often explosive fun of the MythBusters series, it will all be in the name of science. You'll be testing—and learning about—Newton's first law of motion, the power of friction and the principle of lift. You'll also learn, once and for all, if dropped toast really always lands buttered-side down.
Our other new temporary exhibit is Farmers, Warriors, Builders: The Hidden Life of Ants. You've never seen ants like this before. In scientist, author and photographer Mark W. Moffet's massive images, you will see amazing things. You will see curious things. But most of all, you will see strikingly familiar things in societies few have ever glimpsed at this level of detail.
While you're going face-to-face with soldier ants and MythBusting, be sure to take time to explore more of the Museum. Whether it's the shape memory shirt and jacket in Science Storms or the Taste Buddies live science experience, there's always something new to find at MSI. Sometimes you just have to look a little closer.
I look forward to seeing you at MSI this spring!
